What is a TFSA?

Odds are you've heard of a TFSA before, whether it was brought up to you at your bank, you read it on a billboard, or from your uncle who just keeps pestering you to open one. But alot of Canadians still don't fully know what it is. 

As it is a question I get quite a bit, I wanted to provide a bit of insight into the world of TFSAs (Tax Free Savings Account), and help demystify them a bit.  

Ugly is the New Cool

For most people, Crocs have never been been considered the most fashionable style choice. But with shares in Crocs being up over 12% YTD (as of October 11th, 2019), it seems 'ugly' is the new cool. But this begs the question, "Who is buying them?" Accordng to reporting done by CNBC, Crocs are the 13th most popular footwear choice by average income US teenagers. So it seems the brand once synonymous with poorly dressed Dads and Uncles, is being giving a new lease on life by a new generation.

One of the main questions we get a lot is, "Can I withdraw from my RRSP to buy a house?" Well, if you are a first-time homebuyer, then the answer is Yes. 

Taking advantage of the First Time Home Buyers Plan is one of two ways (the other being for education (if you want more info on that let us know)) you can withdraw money from your RRSP tax-free prior to retirement.
